Parenting Diabetic Kids
Research-backed guides for parents
About this site

Built by parents. Grounded in research.

Parenting Diabetic Kids exists because the information parents actually need — specific, honest, research-backed — is scattered across medical journals, parent forums, and discharge packets nobody reads twice.

Why This Site Exists

When a child is diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, parents leave the hospital with a glucometer, a bag of supplies, and a stack of pamphlets that cover the basics — but not the real questions. Not what a blood sugar of 280 at 2am actually means. Not what to do when your child's pump site fails an hour before a swim meet. Not why blood sugar climbs every night between 4am and 7am despite no food and no missed doses.

We built this site to answer the questions that come up in the first weeks, months, and years of managing diabetes in a child — in the kind of depth that makes a real difference, with citations to the research behind every claim.

Every article on this site is written by someone with direct expertise in the subject — pediatric endocrinologists, certified diabetes educators, sports medicine physicians, pediatric psychologists, and parents who have managed T1D in their own children for years. We do not publish generic health content. We do not accept sponsored articles. We do not soften clinical facts to avoid alarming parents who deserve honest information.

Our Editorial Standards

📚

Every claim is cited

Articles reference peer-reviewed research, ADA Standards of Care, or published clinical guidelines. We link to primary sources — not secondary summaries.

🔄

Regular review cycle

Diabetes management evolves. We review and update articles when new research changes recommendations, and every article shows a 'last reviewed' date.

👩‍⚕️

Expert authors

Articles are written by clinicians, certified educators, or experienced T1D parents with relevant domain knowledge — not generalist health writers.

🚫

No sponsored content

We do not accept payment for articles, product placements, or endorsements. CGM and pump comparisons reflect independent assessment, not manufacturer relationships.

⚖️

Medical disclaimer

This site provides educational information, not medical advice. Every article reminds readers to work with their child's diabetes care team on individual management decisions.

🎯

Parents first

We write for parents managing diabetes day-to-day, not for clinicians. We explain the why behind every recommendation so parents can think, not just follow instructions.
