Medical & Wellness

Check out some of the products and services we use to help our kids feel better emotionally and physically.

Resources

Children's Cough & Bronchial Syrup

Boericke & Tafel (B&T) offers both adult and children products for colds, flu, cough, bronchitis and sore throats.  We have found them to be safe and effective.  JoJo and Nick  use the Children Cough and Bronchial Syrup.  It's honey based and works really well.    B&T is a division of Nature's Way Products.

Hydration and Electrolyte Replenishment

To hydrate and replace electrolytes we use a packets of Emergen-C 1,000mg Vitamin C.  Each packet has 32 mineral complexes B vitamins and  only 5g of carbohydrates per packet. Just add water to each packet  and sip throughout the day. They have a variety of flavors, so choose your favorite!  Whenever I find the flavors my kids like I buy a case of 36 packets.

Treating flu like symptoms

With the start of school, flu season is around the corner.  We use oscillococcinum by Boiron when our kids starts feeling run down.  It is a great homeopathic medicine for relief of flu symptoms. It doesn't affect our children blood glucose numbers either.

Lozenges

For a cough, we use lozenges from Zand.  Each herbal lozenge contains  only 2-3grams of carbohydrates each. You can pick from a variety of flavors.  Plus, they are sweetened with brown rice syrup not refined sugars or the use of artificial sweeteners. Vegetarian friendly.  Gluten free.

Hope and a Future

This has been a wonderful resource for our family.  It's hard to describe the benefits this individualized program has given  our children.   It's equipped us with the knowledge to assist and encourage our kids in the needed areas of their lives.

The Neurodevelopmental Approach:

Hope And A Future operate under the following assumptions:

"Labels" only describe symptoms.
To help a child, they identify and target the underlying neurological inefficiencies.

Every child can learn and function more efficiently. When the brain is given proper stimulation with the appropriate frequency, intensity, and duration, inefficiencies are improved and/or eliminated.

There is a synergistic relationship between neurological and psychological function, nutrition, behavior, and the home and learning environment. To help a child, the whole individual is looked at.

We know our child best, and we are the key to implementing any treatment plan.

Both our daughters have been assessed in Boston Massachusetts. There are many other assessment locations available.

Drugwatch: keeping an eye on pharmaceuticals

Drugwatch  is dedicated to educating the public about the
details of prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as aiding
in the protection of patients and consumers by informing them of any
associated side effects and recalls available worldwide.

Diabetes Resources & Help

There's a wealth of information about type 1 diabetes out there, but it's not always easy to find. Diabetes Camps? Blogs and websites? Products to help you manage your children's diabetes? We’re just getting started, but here are a few resources we've found helpful as we learn each day how to help our children manage their diabetes. Have a favorite or helpful information parents could use? Please submit it to us and we'll add it!
