Our family recently started using Nuva to sweeten our food and beverages.  Each teaspoon equals  4g carbohydrates.

Here's some information from Nuva's  website:

Nuva and Diabetes

Nuva is suitable for anyone with diabetes, as well as those looking for natural, zero calorie sweetener solutions.

A study conducted in 1986 in Brazil by researchers at the Universities of Maringa and Sao Paolo showed that the use of the herb stevia can have a positive effect on the blood sugar levels of diabetics.

Nuva contains the following natural ingredients:

Stevia Rebaudiana with Reb A extract -- the sweetest component of the Stevia leaf and extracted for use in natural sweeteners. Reb A just received FDA's "no objection" ruling for use in food and beverages.

Erythritol -- a natural sugar alcohol found in such fruits as grapes and pears. For Nuva, it is extracted from plants, mixed with water, fermented and then dried into a crystal for use in Nuva. Erythritol is recognized by the American Dental Association and FDA as not promoting tooth decay.

Inulin -- a natural dietary fiber from the chicory plant that lends mild flavor and texture to Nuva. Inulin is a prebiotic - a beneficial bacteria - that promotes healthy digestion and improved health.
