- What Makes You Laugh
- Our kids. They have a great sense of humour and they are constantly saying the funniest things.
- Favorite Sports Team
- Hockey is big with our family. We spend the season watching our two boys play.
- What Helps You Get Through
- Knowing that our son's numbers are in check. When he is having a good number day, our day is better too.
- Favorite Meal
- We love supper because it is the time of day when we are all together sharing our stories of the day.
- Helpful Resources
- Support from our diabetic team has been awesome. We have a very supportive extended family as well. Sites such as these are great as well, because it helps to know we are not alone. A great tip: When our son goes to school (he is going into grade 2) we label his lunches with corresponding dot stickers (red for lunch, blue for morning snack, green for afternoon snack and yellow for "free" snacks). We write the food and carb amounts in a book and his teachers can read what the carbs are (so can he). The book also provides a great resource to correspond with teachers as his numbers are recorded each day. At the age of 6 he was already on the pump and entering his own sugar and carb levels.

- Question for Everyone
- Has anyone gone on a week long vacation without their type 1 child?
- Diabetes Camp
- He is too young for the camps in our area. We are thinking about it for next summer.
- Vacation
- We enjoy going to amusement parks such as Canada's Wonderland, Marineland, Great Wolf Lodge. Although it can be difficult to manage we are pretty good at guessing the carb counts. We have asked for food to be measured at restaurants. We also try to bring our own snacks that we know he responds well to. But the best advice is to test often and keep an eye out for the signs of highs and lows.
- Question For Team
- What is considered a safe number at night for a 6 year old? We always test him at 11 pm and his numbers vary from 6 to 15. See the answer
- Question For Us
- Any ideas for school lunch snacks?????
- What Do You Think
- We are coming up on our two year anniversary of Ethan's diagnosis. We are dealing with his diabetes well as a family, but I cannot wait until the day a cure can be found. This condition can certainly add stress and strain on a family, but the belief that one day a cure will be found keeps us going strong.

Kathy Bowman Sep 14, 2010 (2 years ago)My son is about to turn 13 and was dx'd at age 2. We have not yet left him for more than two days especially since he's on the pump and that was only 1 time. If he could change his site out by himself I would consider leaving him with only the person I trust the most to be attentive when/if he can't be.

Nancy Sep 3, 2010 (2 years ago)I'm not sure if it was a whole week, but we have gone on a couple of trips since Emily was diagnosed and left her with grandma. It gets easier the older they get-Emily is now 13.
