Tracy & Emily (diagnosed at 3; 4 1/2 now) May 18, 2010 (2 years ago)We can usually tell a sick is on the way because of her high unexplained blood sugar. We test, test and test during those days. Emily is an eater most of the time so getting her to eat has never been much of an issue. We use sugar free popcycles, homemade shaved ice and smoothies to entice plenty of hydration.

Lori & Katie May 18, 2010 (2 years ago)Hey Shurtliff Family! The way I deal with sick days with my daughter is making sure that she is constantly drinking. My daughter was diagnosed when she was 22 mths old, and she is now almost 11! When Katie does not feel well enough to eat, whether it be upset stomach or flu, making sure to have her favorite popsicles in the freezer is a saviour. Cause heaven knows that when a child is sick AND diabetic we worry alot more. At least with the popsicles, she would be staying hydrated. High sugars are inevitible when illness strikes, so doing the best we can is all we can do!
I hope that it was a little bit helpful! Have a terrific day!
