Where do you live?
Manchester
Who or what makes your family laugh?

Our kids Jack and Kate both have super silly personalities! They are always entertaining us with a great joke, funny face or impersonation. We laugh A LOT:)

What is your favorite sports team? or activity?

Manchester United fans! Lots of soccer in our house and we also love running and race in several 5Ks together as a family each year.

What helps you get through the day?

After experiencing Jack's diagnosis we know we can handle anything that life throws at us. We are a strong family and this has made of even stronger.

What is your favorite meal or snack? Why?

Yogurt - so many flavors and so many toppings. Some really yummy sugar-free options as well.

What resources have been useful since diagnosis? Please share a tip you think would be helpful for other parents.

Resources have been so critical to us this first year. Our local JDRF came to Jack's school and educated his entire 3rd grade class on what was happening with their friend. Jack is very open about his disease and as parents we feel the more people in his life that know about T1D the more sets of watchful, caring eyes he will have around him.

What was the date your child was diagnosed?

10/7/10

What question would you ask everyone who lives with Type 1 diabetes?

We are very new to this world and want to be as pro-active as possible for Jack. What are the most difficult situations they may lie ahead for him?

Has your child attended a diabetes camp? If so, which camp? If they enjoyed it, please tell us more about their experience.

Jack just attended Camp Endres for the first time this summer. He loved all the great activities and made such good connections with other kids that share his same condition. He definitely wants to go back next summer.

What is your favorite type of family vacation? Do you have any tips managing diabetes on vacation?

We try to go to the beach every summer and this was our first time with T1D. Lots of challenges but nothing insurmountable. Jack is extremely active - swimming, fishing, surfing, running - lots of carb burning!! We really had to plan his meals/snacks to sustain his levels and avoid lows. Also tricky to keep his snacks and insulin pens cold while on the go in the hot sun. We got a Frio insulated wallet and that worked pretty well and lots of ice packs.

Do you have a specific question for our Team of Experts?

Jack's in a clinical trial right now and we're encouraged by the research. What do you see as the most viable advancement in the near future, next five years?

Do you have a question for us?

How do we balance not letting T1D consume our lives without feeling guilty for not thinking about it every minute of everyday? How do we balance not letting T1D consume our lives without feeling guilty for not thinking about it every minute of everyday?

What do you think???

I think that T1D families need all the support, encouragement and comfort they can get and I really appreciate your website for that!
