- What pump are you on?

- Not yet

- Bring extra catheters to the beach or use the silloettes on beach days vs the quickset. But I read somewhere that you should bring a spray bottle to spray the sand off the catheter.
- Question For Team
- At what age do you think kids should be able to go on a pump? When our Daughter was first diagnosed at age 3 in 2000. about a year into her diagnosis, a Dr. laughed at me when I asked that question and snottily told me 12! needless to say that was our last appointment at that hospital and then we switched to Yale (yeah!) and our daughter started on the pump 6 mos later in time for kindergarten. See the answer
- Question For Us
- Have you met Nick Jonas and if so can you tell him to come to Upstate NY?
Not yet but I know my kids would love that! - What Do You Think
- We wanted to do something -anything to make sense of it all and one day it came to me in a song- "Somewhere" from West Side Story- the song evoked in me the same feelings I felt about finding a cure for our daughter. So we created this site to inspire people to donate to a charity of their choice that is dedicated to finding cures through research. You can find our story online at somewheretheresacure.org and hopefully be inspired.

AnneMarie Aug 28, 2011 (9 months ago)My daughter was diagnosed in 6/08 when she was 11. We couldn't get her to look at a pump until 2/09. She also uses the minimed and loves it. She did try the CGM during basketball but she hated it. Benita my daughter is now 14 and we live in Colonie. My daughter has gone to the Sugra Free Day camp but has aged out of it. Last year she went to the Circle of Life Camp and loved it. Unfortunately they did not run the camp this year. So we found her another camp, Camp Aspire in Rush NY. She also loved this camp. If Circle of Life starts up again next year she wants to go to both. Try the camps!!! It is such a positive experience for the kids. She didn't know anyone at the camps, sha has made many new friends.

Katelynn Marie Callon May 1, 2011 (1 year ago)I am on the Medtronic Paradigm Pump, and I also have the CGM sensor. I love both. I have been on the pump through Minimed since 2000 when I could finally switch from shots after 8 years of them!! Needless to say, I love the pump so much more. Where in Upstate, NY are you from? I am starting my own Foundation, and you may be interested! Send me an e-mail at diabetescamp@hotmail.com and check out my website at www.camphealthyhope.org!! I hope to hear from you!

Cheri Jan 24, 2011 (1 year ago)What was key here is that you asked a good question and your doctor dismissed you. Changing doctors at that point was a good decision. I've seen very young children on the pump, we were 5. Our doctor thought better to delay a year, but others will start right away with diagnosis. Our first doctors office we not very sensitive, we changed to Joslin and have never looked back!

Wanda Jan 10, 2011 (1 year ago)Ous son is on the Medtronic Minimed pump, he (and we) love it! It gave him back so much freedom. He went on the pump after 4 months of his diagnosis. He was diagnosed on Dec 1, 2008 and is now 6 years old.
He too would love to meet Nick Jonas! -

Benita Jan 5, 2011 (1 year ago)My son is also on the Minimed pump...the one that goes with the CGMS and he has that too. We also live in upstate NY, near Albany. We had to switch Dr.'s too to get him on the pump. He's 14 now and has had type 1 for 8 years.
