- Where do you live?
- Norwich, CT
- Who or what makes your family laugh?
A good sense of humor, a funny movie or a great story around he fire pit
- What is your favorite sports team? or activity?
Split down the middle - three adore the Boston red Sox and the rest are Yankees fans. April through October are some tough months in this household
- What helps you get through the day?
Faith, friends, family and knowing that God knows what He is doing. Of our four children, Collin is the only one with the laid back personality to deal with the rigors of T1 Diabetes. Collin gets us through the day with his positive attitude
- What is your favorite meal or snack? Why?
Family Dinner. Cass is a Lt in the Fire Dept with rotating shifts so our family time has always been important. We truly enjoy the times we are able to sit around the table enjoying conversations with one another
- What resources have been useful since diagnosis? Please share a tip you think would be helpful for other parents
Internet and my friends. the internet provides a wealth of available information, however, it is extremely overloading and can be frightening with the sheer amount of information available with the click of a mouse. My friends were my rock in the first weeks. I never could have survived the emotional roller coaster without them
- What was the date your child was diagnosed?
Mar 10,2011
- What question would you ask everyone who lives with Type 1 diabetes?
What is your wish for the future
- Has your child attended a diabetes camp? If so, which camp? If they enjoyed it, please tell us more about their experience.
No. Not yet.
- What is your favorite type of family vacation? Do you have any tips managing diabetes on vacation?
Walt Disney World. In fact, I was in WDW with the kids when Collin got sick. It was a spur of the moment trip and we now know why. The kids and Cass also adore camping. While we've not had a vacation since diagnosis, summer vacation itself is proving to be challenging. Collin isn't paying nearly as close attention as he should, but he is, after all, a 9 yr old boy. Kids work best with schedules. Even on vacation, I would say stick to a schedule with all checks, injections and meals.
- What do you think???
I think your site is great. I also think it would be amazing if a cure could be found or there were even early warning signs.

Melissa Watson Aug 18, 2011 (9 months ago)Sorry to hear of your sons diagnosis. We are also in SE CT. Our child with D is our oldest son who is 12. He loves to meet other kids. A cure is our wish for the future. Family time is important to us also. My husband is in the Navy and is gone a lot! So when he is home it's important to get that time together.
