- Where do you live?
- Searcy, Arkansas
- What Makes You Laugh
- We laugh a lot, mostly at ourselves.
- Favorite Sports Team
- Our daughter played softball all through school and we also spent many years on soccer fields. Most of children -- we have five -- have also participated in band and drama activities.
- What Helps You Get Through
- Knowing that we're not the only family dealing with Type 1 Diabetes. When our son was diagnosed, people reached out to us in wonderful ways. It also makes my heart happy when I see that our friends and family members have donated to JDRF.
- Favorite Meal
- We love having pizza night. We used to do homemade pizza but when Lisa (mom) went back to work full time, it became take out night. Caleb's favorite Type 1 friendly snacks are beef jerky and pork rinds.
- Helpful Resources
- I could not have survived this past year without the connections I've made with other parents who are living with Type 1 Kids. I would encourage everyone to seek out friends and share your experiences with them. Don't be afraid to ask for help. No question is silly when you're protecting your child's life.

- Question for Everyone
- How do you keep from worrying about all the 'what-ifs'? How do keep yourself calm and de-stressed?
- Diabetes Camp
- Caleb is attending Camp Aldersgate this summer. He is VERY excited and we are all looking forward to his time there.
- Vacation
- We haven't had the opportunity to vacation since his diagnosis. Our favorite way to get away is to find a nice cabin at a state park and explore the local area so I think this will be fairly easy to manage with Type 1 concerns.
- Question For Team
- Will there ever be a time when there is a different name for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes? Explaining the difference to people can be frustrating sometimes.
PDK response: I wrote a blog about our families personal frustration regarding type 1 and type 2 diabetes. - Question For Us
- What inspired you to start this site? And THANK YOU for doing it
- What Do You Think
- I think that children who live every day with Type 1 are the bravest children in the world.

Parenting Diabetic Kids Jun 22, 2010 (2 years ago)What inspired you to start this site?
Our daughter was diagnosed when she was 4 now 9 years old. During that first year we felt so alone. About two years after Johanna's diagnosis we decided to open our home up to foster children with type 1 diabetes. We felt isolated and a sense that this is a disease that requires teamwork and community. Plus support from those that truly understand. And so we started PDK. I stopped crying as much and felt a support needed on a daily basic.

It is hard to de-stress and I am sorry but the what-if's are a reality of the disease. Everyone has their own way of coping, including a good cry, a fit of anger, or a good wallow in self-pity for their child.
Keep loving and learning and day will follow day and your son will grow into a fine and happy man.
