- Cadence's favorite snacks are hard boiled eggs, meatballs or (if carbs are needed) a banana with honey PB on it.
- Helpful Resources
- Our local JDRF community has been great. The support groups have been a wonderful way to meet other families who "get it".

- Question for Everyone
- How long until you feel like you can do all this alone? I still am so unsure about adjusting basal/I:C ratios without checking with the clinic first.....
- Diabetes Camp
- We will be going to our first family camp weekend in May. There is a day camp here in Nashville that we are hoping to get Cadence into.
- Vacation
- Vacation: We love the beach & water activities :) We have not taken a "vacation" since diagnosis due to my husband's deployment. This summer will be our 1st vacation away from home & any family since diagnosis.
- Question For Team
- Does anyone have any tricks to getting a pump site to stay on in the water? We are having horrible luck & usually end up pulling it before jumping in. I just hate to waste a good site because of stickiness issues.

Christian May 4, 2011 (1 year ago)In terms of how long it was until we felt like we could do it "alone": It was a long, gradual process where we picked up a little more with each passing month. Our daughter stayed in her honeymoon period for almost two years so that her numbers were so stable we really didn't need to make very many adjustments to her pump settings. Therefore, for us, it wasn't really until the third year when we were making changes weekly or bi-weekly that I really "got" it. I think for most people, it happens a lot sooner than that. I remember with carb counting wondering how long it took people to "get it" and not need to look up every single food item. That was also a gradual process that little by little we started to just remember... Make and keep as many connections as you can with fellow type 1 families. It makes all the difference in the world.

Robin May 4, 2011 (1 year ago)March 25, 2009 my daughter self diagnosed her type 1. The best advice I could give is to stay informed and connected to the many groups that are out here. Your not alone and making friends with fellow diabetics has helped us a lot!
