- Where do you live?
- Alabama
- What Makes You Laugh
- We make each other laugh. We love to tease each other and listen to each others crazy stories about their day.
- Favorite Sports Team
- We are big Saints fans and had a great party in Louisiana last year when the Saints won the Super Bowl. All the kids got dressed up in their Saints gear and danced to all the great songs about the Saints team. We also love to spend time at the beach. We are only about 6 miles or so from the beach so we go whenever we can. It's relaxing and beautiful family fun.
- What Helps You Get Through
- Knowing that we have each other and that we can talk to the kids about anything and that they can talk to us. I have such great kids and a wonderful husband and I know that I can get through anything with them.
- Favorite Meal
- We love anything with peanut butter for a snack and we eat a lot of seafood.
- Helpful Resources
- I am a huge advocate of JDRF and I donate whatever I can when I have extra money. They have the best articles and are always up to date on the latest in research.
- Date Diagnosed

- Question for Everyone
- How do you deal with this disease on a daily basis, emotionally?
- Diabetes Camp
- Not yet
- Vacation
- We love to cruise. We went in April of this year and the hardest part is keeping the insulin cold when you are going to be out for a long period of time.
- What Do You Think
- I think that my daughter is the bravest little girl in the world. I will stop at nothing to help find a cure for this disease. I have designed a necklace of freshwater pearls and a sterling silver butterfly that I am selling and donating the proceeds to JDRF.

Heather Sawyer Mar 4, 2012 (3 months ago)My 10 year old daughter was diagnosed a year ago yesterday 3-3-11 as a type 1 diabetic. It has been a roller coaster of a year. I am a paramedic/RN and i thought i understood diabetes pretty well. Boy was i ever wrong!!! Living with this disease everyday can be so overwhelming! Also my daughter has had chronic strep over this past year. She never had strep before she was diabetic. now her dr is wanting me to take her to a ent to assess her need for a tonsillectomy. The thought of her having to go through a surgry absolutly scares my daughter. She tells me she has had to go through enough over the past year. I totally agree with her on that, but i also know how dangerous a strep infection can be. Has anyone else expierenced a tonsillectomy with their type 1? I need to know what to expect and if its worth putting her through this???

Jennifer Sep 19, 2010 (2 years ago)It is very hard to deal with disease on a daily basis. I have 2 kids with T1 and it is a daily struggle. The best thing I have found is running or some type of exercise to keep your blood pressure from rising, and talking about it to someone who cares about you. You have to talk about it and not hold it in. It is hard and our sweet kids are fighting a battle for their lives. It is normal to feel ups and downs, mad, happy...but talk about it and let it out! I would love to see your necklace you are selling! Good luck!
