Jillian Angermeier Apr 8, 2011 (1 year ago)HI!! Thanks for your reply! we talked to a diabetes counsellor who told us if he is having tantrums and acting up NOT to test his sugars and still discipline him like any other kid or else he thinks he can get away with it and than its not fair for his sister who doesnt get to have an excuse, we just have to teach Hudson how to control his temper when he is high so that h e learns... hard stuff to do when he cant really help the way he reacts to high sugars but we can help change the attitude behind the tantrum :)

tanyss christie Apr 7, 2011 (1 year ago)I had some of the same questions you have here -- my daughter was dx aug 2010 at 22 months. Tantrums and temper flairs i notice on highs are extremely painful to watch. biting feet, scratching face, heat patches on her body, its so scarey. I have to carefully diagnose a temper tantrum or the pain of high blood sugars. I know now asap give a shot and shes fine once the sugars come down, but until youre a parent and go through it no one understands. Ive had ppl say "do you give her a time out?" well NO! not when its medically induced....
our pediatrician just says to ensure best blood sugar results possible and the mood swings will subside and I do notice a difference. Its definately not easy -- if you want to chat more im in Chilliwack BC and would love to hear more and help.I am also a T1 for 27 years. my email is tanyss1@telus.net
wishing you and your family well.
