As I look out our large picture window at our first snow my heart is full of Thanksgiving. I am thankful for the memories of my childhood on this special day. My beloved late grandmother making fresh fruit cup for the first course and the table set with her fine china. I remember my grandfather carving the roast beef, always smiling and saying "How are you ba-bbbie"? My family arrived looking their best and having such excitement to see our grandparents.
I am thankful for my own family; the traditions we have. One that comes to mind is our Thanksgiving dinner is always scheduled around what time the Dallas Cowboys are playing. My heart could burst with pride and gratitude over my children. Thanksgiving transcends our present trials; it is a day of magnificent memories, a day of renewed commitment to the things that matter.
I took a moment to ask each family member what they were thankful for:
Jeff: I am thankful for my wife and children; truly the greatest earthly blessings God has given me.
Naomi, 14: I am thankful for my parents, dogs and my siblings because they reassure me and they are always there for me.
Nick, 8: I am thankful Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins. I am thankful for being a part of this family, wholly.
Johanna, 7: I am thankful for Nick and Naomi. I am also thankful for my family because they protect me and take care of me and keep my body safe. I am thankful Jesus died on the cross for us so we could live.
Thanksgiving is a time for grateful reflection. We would love to know what you are thankful for.
I’m Natalie. I’m a mom of three kids, two with type 1 diabetes. As you know, parenting children with type 1 diabetes is a journey of long nights, lots of work, and seldom much support. There’s not much I can do about your long nights, but I hope our website and blogs offer you some support. I look forward to blogging with you.
