The 2009 NFL season is officially upon us. Yes, I know. It's that time of year wives fear most, when husbands routinely go AWOL on Sunday afternoons (or Sunday nights, Monday nights and now, Thursday nights, too), household repairs disappear from To Do Lists without actually getting done and where dinners are timed from the two-minute warning. It's also a time for sound reasoning: "It's a division game"; "If they win the next six games, the Giants lose two of four and the Redskins tie, they're in!"; "This is a crucial (play, down, series, quarter, half or game...)"; "He can set the record today!" and of course, "I don't have the proper wrench for that!" These are all quite silly, of course. But for those of us in the Type 1 World, there is one very good reason to watch the NFL this year, and in particular Jay Cutler, quarterback for the Chicago Bears.
Last year Jay was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and had a record season while dealing with the rigors of the disease. This year, he has teamed up with Eli Lilly and American Diabetes Association (ADA) to form Touchdowns for Diabetes, a camp scholarship campaign. For every touchdown and completion Jay throws this season, Eli Lilly will contribute funds toward ADA camp scholarships, so that more kids with type 1 can attend ADA diabetes camps. So, together, let's root on Jay toward a record-breaking season full of pass completions and touchdowns.
Light 'em up, Jay!
I’m Natalie. I’m a mom of three kids, two with type 1 diabetes. As you know, parenting children with type 1 diabetes is a journey of long nights, lots of work, and seldom much support. There’s not much I can do about your long nights, but I hope our website and blogs offer you some support. I look forward to blogging with you.
