My hat goes off to my husband Jeff for many reasons. Not only is he the father of my children but we walk side-by-side caring for our children, two of whom have diabetes.
From the moment we sat in the doctor's office April 15, 2005 and heard Johanna's diagnosis, we've been a great team. I am grateful for his wisdom, perseverance, faith and love during our family's unanticipated journey through the "D" world.
After JoJo's diagnosis he moved from his corner office to our home so he could be closer to our daughter. Two years later we decided to open our home to foster children with diabetes. Vermont's Division of Children and Families was on a statewide search to find a home for a little 6 year old boy then just diagnosed with type 1, whose foster family thought diabetes was too much to handle. We adopted him in 2008. It was no small undertaking.
Then we launched this website parentingdiabetickids and later slamdiabetes. Jeff's support and impact continues to evolve and grow.
Here's to all the dad's who support & love their families, and especially those whose families have been hit by diabetes.
Happy Father's Day!
I’m Natalie. I’m a mom of three kids, two with type 1 diabetes. As you know, parenting children with type 1 diabetes is a journey of long nights, lots of work, and seldom much support. There’s not much I can do about your long nights, but I hope our website and blogs offer you some support. I look forward to blogging with you.
