As many of you know we adopted our son Nick about seven years ago. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes while in foster care and the State of Vermont was looking for a family to adopt him.  We knew how to care for him because our daughter JoJo also had diabetes.  It has been an amazing journey having two children the same age with diabetes.  Nick has been a blessing to our family and we can't imagine our lives without him.

I am a mom of 3 teenage girls. One biological, and two adopted through the VT Department of Children and Families foster care system. Although I could spend hours and days talking to you about how great my girls are, what I really need all of your help with is finding a home for another great pre-teen girl. My life at home is teenagers, boys, high school, driving lessons (UGH!!) and more, my life at work for the Department of Children and Families as a Resource Coordinator is full of finding foster families for the more than 170 children in Chittenden County Vermont from birth to 18.

I am reaching out through this blog because K is an 11 year old girl here in Vermont with type 1 diabetes. K is a amazing young lady that we are looking for one special family who will be willing to be a forever home for her.

K's dad was in a position where he was saying he couldn’t meet her needs. Dad was single parenting and was raising 4 children.

K has type 1 diabetes and is insulin dependent that was diagnosed when she was 3 years old. She is now 11. She had been on a pump until recently and is currently on shots.

She comes from a large family and loves animals, playing outside, swimming, biking, playing board games and playing cards, going to the movies, playing in the park and being with friends. She says her prayers before bed. She goes to bed at 8PM and gets up about 6:30-7AM. She loves showers and will be entering 6th grade this year.

She has been living with her paternal grandparents for several months but her grandparents are leaving the country for an extended period of time so K needs to be placed someplace else. K has a twin that will be placed with another family member.

If you are interested in becoming a foster parent for K or any other child, I would love to hear from you. I can be reached at [email protected]

Thank you for all that you do to care for children.
