I have had it and I am done!! Please help!! Our 8 yr old son is T1dx'd 3 years ago. Usually he is really good at dealing with his diabetes but if something comes along that he doesn't like (diabetes related or not), he has a meltdown. Tonight was a major meltdown and both my hubby and I are done. He fell in a mud puddle and was asked to change clothes. He did without issue but when he was asked to get his bg's done for dinner, he refused. We decided to let him be but he had to sit with us which is the"rule" for all 3 of our kids as they are part of the family. We asked why he didn't want to do his bg's and his reply was that he wasn't hungry despite saying he wanted 2 portions of dinner before we began cooking. When we asked why he suddenly wasn't hungry he replied that he didn't want to change his clothes and started crying and screaming. He ran away to his room and when hubby tried to talk to him all hubby got was louder crying and screaming. He was given time to settle while the rest of the family ate dinner. Hubby went to talk to him again and was met with more crying and screaming. At this point we asked him to go and check his sugars as we weren't sure if he was high or low. He refused to move so hubby carried him upstairs and we tested his sugars all the time screaming and wailing. He was 15.0 so we sent him back down to his room so as to not disturb the rest of the family as the other 2 children were becoming upset. He stayed there for some time in the hopes he would settle which he did calm down until we tried to talk to him when he would begin screaming and crying again. We gave him his Levemir and put him to bed with no dinner. We will be checking on him through the night. This is not a one off time as it happens often. If he doesn't get his way, finds something difficult or doesn't want to put an effort into it, he will scream, cry and carry on refusing to be any part of a discussion. He acts like a 2 year old having a tantrum. This is beginning to effect the entire family and we need help. This behavior was evident pre-diabetes. Please, please help!!!!!!!
